'Greater Than AIDS' is back with another amazing Youtube series- and it’s all about preventing HIV. Have you ever heard of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis? PreWHAT? Some of you may have no idea what it is, since it's still not very well known. PrEP, the shorter and easier name, is a once-daily pill that reduces the risk of getting HIV by more than 90 per cent. Of course it's best to still use a condom as well, for added protection against HIV and other STD's.
The PrEP pill should be taken every day and can only be prescribed by a health care provider, so people can start and stop safely to ensure the effectiveness of the pill. Anyone who isn't infected with HIV yet and/or anyone who is at risk of being exposed to HIV can take the pill.
Have you possibly been exposed to HIV? Then you can take PEP, short for pre-exposure prophylaxis. This is of course not an on-going pill: you must take one every day for 28 days after the exposure.
