AYO! Kita Bicara HIV & AIDS is a project aimed at spreading HIV awareness in Bali. The Balinese situation is quite critical at the moment, a report by the Bali Health Department that was released in May 2013 shows that Bali is the second highest region in Indonesia for new HIV infections. It was estimated that one third of the new infections will not be reported and among the 380 cases reported between January and March 2013, 40% are among people under 30 years old. Therefore a massive project of prevention and awareness is needed and this is also the reason why AYO! decided to target mainly young people and students.
This video is about a workshop that was recently developed and you can see how much this organization is paying attention to fight prejudice and stigma within the local community.
What is extremely smart is the fact that they are now addressing mainly the new generations to give them a proper education about HIV/AIDS matters so that they can start speaking truthfully about the subject with their peers. To speak truthfully means to show that HIV prevention is not just a health issue but it also has many social implications. When people still think that it is possible to recognize HIV+ individuals because of their appearance, it means that they still need a far deeper knowledge about the subject. In this kind of social environment, to break the wall of silence surrounding HIV and AIDS matters is an act of courage and I think it's extremely wise to ask youngsters to take a part of this responsibility since they're usually more open and especially because they are one of the most endangered categories.

To see others working in Bali on actual prevention programs is always a joy since the main goal of the Bali Against AIDS' workshops is to encourage as many people as possible to take action in the fight of the epidemic, so that this unfortunate trend in Indonesia - a country that still sees an increase (instead of a reduction) in HIV infections- will change as fast as possible.
