This weekend I have enjoyed one of the advantages of volunteering in another country, the opportunity to discover not only that one and yet those around it. Yesterday I came back from Berlin, where I spent the weekend celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall Fall.

It was my first trip to Germany and I can say: "Ich bin ein Berliner", as US President J.F. Kennedy said once. It's not a particularly beautiful city like Paris or London but it has a special charm that made me fall in love with it. There were lots of activities to commemorate the most significant event in recent German history, such as a new temporary wall with thousands of illuminated balloons or giant screens showing historic images of the Berlin division at well-known places like Brandenburg Gate or Checkpoint Charlie.

Some vague memories about the wall's fall back to my mind from the 1989 but I had never seen before how it was built. Therefore, it was an opportunity for my friends and I to learn as much as we can about this turning point episode in European history.

Aside from visiting monuments and other important places, we also sampled the traditional food such as currywurst o frikadellen. We discovered this Butcher's shop too, where you could have sworn being in "Satriale's", from the popular series The Sopranos.

Another discovery was made, this dissapointed: a Nazi's symbol, swastika, in an old hall's floor tiles. But on the good news front, I found also big vending machines with different kinds of condoms and sex toys. It is important to remember that wherever you go, to find a condom is as easy as putting it on.
