As you know, AIDS is not the only disease transmitted trough unprotected sexual contact. If you are not careful and if you are taking your health for granted, you can easily find yourself infected with a bacterial vaginosis, chlamydia, genital herpes, gonorrhea, syphilis or Trichomoniasis. And these are just few of more than 30 different sexually transmissible bacteria, viruses and parasites. Take control! Arm yourself with information about STDs and be aware of the consequences of any risky sexual situation that you are putting yourself in.

There are many possibilities to protect yourself. First of all: communicate with your partner! Whether it’s a one night stand or a long term relationship, knowing the status of the person you’re with and also talking about your status is an important step in a sexual relationship. - Of course, in this case it’s easier in a monogamous relationship, since with a one night fling you have no idea if you’re partner is honest… So condoms are still the best way out ;-) - To do this, we cannot forget the importance of getting tested yourself! Knowing your STD status is a critical step to stopping STD transmission. If you know you are infected you can take steps to protect yourself and your partners. Many STDs can be easily diagnosed and treated. If either you or your partner is infected, both of you need to receive treatment at the same time to avoid getting re-infected.
