Aside from dealing with the news of being HIV+, discrimination and stigma are still a very harsh reality for those with a positive diagnosis. Most of us would like to consider our modern society to be more accepting and tolerant -and with some illnesses we are. An example is Hepatitis C, which in so many ways is similar to HIV (for instance it has the same way of transmission). Although it can be cured today, for a long time there was no cure, but it never had the same level of stigma.
