One of our staunchest supporters and DAA Ambassadors is fashion designer Katharine Polk, who started up her own label Houghton about a year ago.

Katharine Polk’s fresh fashion vision is expressed in her striking stylist work for top magazines, her stunning designs for Houghton (houghtonnyc.com) where she serves as creative director and in the distinctive content she creates for FIASCO Magazine in her role New York Fashion Editor.

During the 2012 Fall/Winter Fashion Week at New York’s Lincoln Center, Polk debuted her first RTW collection as the head designer for HOUGHTON. Drawing inspiration from Katharine Hepburn, Bianca Jagger and Patti Smith, Polk designs for the independent woman who desires a look that is effortlessly chic yet sexy and strong. Her debut show was very well received by the top publications and fashion blogs including WWD who named Katharine for Houghton a “New Designer to Watch”, BULLETT, Time, ElleGirl, Glamour and Style Sight. The collection has been sold internationally.

In 2011, Polk was invited to be the New York Fashion Editor of FIASCO Magazine and assigned her own monthly feature, 'Style Mode'. In less than a year Polk has styled 3 cover stories for Fiasco and this successful collaboration continues.

She established 'Katharine Polk Stylist' in 2009 an ongoing fashion styling company specializing in editorials, music videos, and high-end celebrity clientele. Katharine enjoys the opportunity to work with top American and European photographers, models, actors, musicians and magazines, leaving her distinctive stamp on everything she does.

Originally from Malibu, California, Polk graduated from FIDM in Los Angeles with a fashion design degree and moved to New York City to begin her career as the design assistant and in-house stylist for Badgley Mischka Couture. Her designs and styling work graced the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runways for six consecutive seasons (from 2007-2009) and appeared nationally in WWD, Glamour, InStyle, Elle, and Vogue as well as on the cover of Brides Magazine.

Polk also dedicates her time and passion to her role as an U.S. spokesperson for the international non-profit organization, Designers Against Aids. She lives in New York City with Jonesy - her supermodel English bulldog.
