Last night the brightest stars in Hollywood turned up to amfAR's Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles to honor Tom Ford and his support to the fight against AIDS. In attendance was Miley Cyrus who took over MAC Viva Glam ambassadorship from another guest of the evening, Rihanna. The Bajan singer presented amfAR's Inspiration Award 2014 to Tom Ford - and went on a shopping spree during the charity auction. One of her buys was Willy Rizzo's photo "Elizabeth Taylor at the Eden Roc" for 100,000 dollars. Naturally, she was wearing a daring frock by the honoree himself. Tom Ford has spoken out in interviews how HIV/AIDS cast a shadow in his life when a close friend of the fashion designer was one of the first people to be diagnosed with AIDS in 1981 and subsequently died of the disease. "It completely flipped me out, and from then on, I was extremely safe" Ford stated in Out magazine in 2011. "If we made a list, I would say that half of our friends from the early '80s are no longer with us. It continued into the early '90s -- it just didn't stop." Since then, he has been an avid AIDS advocate, raising over a million dollars at AIDS Project Los Angeles charity dinner in 1997 with his then-employer Gucci and continues to be a generous supporter of amfAR and Elton John AIDS Foundation. Rock on Tom!
