In conjunction with Designers Against AIDS (DAA), the British International School (BIS) CAS students contributed their time in planning and initiating activities in order to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in Phuket, Thailand for World AIDS Day. With inspiration from DAA, BIS created their own BIS Against Aids fashion show as part of an Aids awareness assembly. Our students made designs on black T-shirts with quotes and phrases such as, "PREVENTION IS THE ONLY CURE", "Know your status" and "PLAY SAFE". Parallel to this activity Da Vinci Italian restaurant, flashed their lights on Phuket's hottest fashion show-‘Black is Back'. Some of our students were models for the fashion show, runners for the designers and raffle ticket sellers during the night. Students raised a total of 30,000 baht from selling raffle tickets. A total of 100,000 Baht was raised for the Life Home Project from the night's events.
On the 29th of November BIS had its very own World Aids Day event. There was an HIV/AIDS awareness assembly. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from the safety dance competition got everybody in the audience moving to their skillful moves. Not only did we have a very educational and exciting assembly, we also had Watermark restaurant bringing in their delicious pizzas for lunch. However, nothing beat the CHILL band from the famous Hard Rock Café in Phuket, rocking BIS into the world of entertainment. We raised a total amount of 26,975.25 baht from selling pizzas and red ribbons. What a great day!

The Phuket municipality found it important to raise awareness among young adults about HIV/AIDS, so they gave local Phuket schools a chance to host HIV/AIDS related activities at the large Central Festival shopping mall. Model One Agency and West One Salon put on a fashion show with some of the BIS students as models. The BIS students also hosted an English Language awareness booth educating foreigners and non-Thai residence about HIV/AIDS and DAA and what BIS students do at school to raise awareness about global issues such as this. Another fascinating and educational day for the students and everyone who attended the event.

Grand totals raised from all World AIDS Day activities was 62,025.25 baht with all proceeds going to the Life Home Project Phuket.

Thanks to Mrs. Coulson, our CAS coordinator, and all of our supporters who contributed time and money to these events and thanks to all BIS students for supporting and helping out with our activities.

PLAY SAFE from BIS to everyone around the world!
