What if you could do a free and anonymous HIV-test on the corner of every street? Sounds intresting, right? Well,  this thought also occurred to the Teen AIDS-PeerCorps.

Since HIV-infections are dangerously high in D.C., they decided to take testing to the streets instead of waiting for youngsters to come to them.  They put up a temporarily outdoor health clinic in Metro Center. Here, youngsters over the age of 17 could get a free HIV-test and know within minutes if they are infected or not.   The project did raise some ethical questions though, because the organization solemnly exists out of volunteers, one might wonder if they’re prepared if a tests actually comes back positive and they have to announce this news. But over all, I think it’s a marvelous idea since most of the fear still lays in taking the whole journey to a doctor and specifically asking for an HIV-test… It would be a lot easier if you bump into a free testing and you can instantly decide ‘ well what the heck, let’s get this thing done’. – I would even love to see this on festivals for example – But until this concept actually travels all the way to the corner of your street, it might be interesting to collect all your courage and make that appointment with the doctor, because knowing your status might safe your life and the life of your partner. Get tested, darlings!
