Obama Will Meet Gay Activists In Russia

We were not super happy last time we wrote about Obama's reactions to the new homophobic legislation in Russia. The statements of Mister President during Jay Leno's interview were quite standard, if not watered down by diplomacy.

By the way, this second time we feel a certain relief. Today Buzzfeed.com says that the heads of four LGBT non-governmental organizations have been invited for a meeting with the US President this Thursday in St. Petersburg.

Obama was meant to meet privately with Vladimir Putin in Moscow but the meeting was cancelled given the support from Russian authorities to Edward Snowden, one of the main US public enemies at the moment. Seeing that Obama must be in Russia in any case - the G20 will take place in St. Petersburg on September 5 and 6 - he decided to re-schedule his agenda so that he could get the Russian Authorities even more p****d off.

Russian people - politicians say - do not want to follow all the western habits, such as freedom of expression for the homosexual community. Even if this is true, there must be a constant, clear and annoying opposition to these outdated views from the western authorities. Nice move Barack, I really hope that this is going to be just a first step in a long series of others, to make clear that human rights are not just an option.
