What's the latest news from Russia this week? Yesterday President Vladimir Putin came up with some good stuff during the Valdai Club political forum on Syria, gay rights and "democracy". He obviously the defended new Russian legislation on gay matters by saying that "Any minority's right to be different must be respected, but the right of the majority must not be questioned". What kind of right is questioned by being openly gay is an aspect that still needs to be properly cleared, but he wanted to spend some words in defence of his friend Silvio Berlusconi, who "faces trial for bedding women. If he was gay, no one would ever lay a finger on him" he said with a smile. If he was gay he would have not even been able to become prime minister -or have agreements with mafia clans since, believe me, these are pretty conservative people. Vlad, if Berlusconi was gay he would not be Berlusconi.

The new Russian law against LGBT propaganda is also one of the reasons for Selena Gomez's visa to be rejected by the Russian authorities. This is why she had to cancel four concerts in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine that she was supposed to play. John Becker, gay right activist, called Selena to stand up for the LGBT cause in front of the Russian audience through a petition on change.org that was already signed by almost 10.000 people. This fact obviously has scared someone in Russia. Like Madonna and Lady Gaga before her, Selena is now paying the price for her engagement in the LGBT cause.

Cher also has something to say about the issue. After being asked about her opinion on Russia by Maclean's magazine she replied "I can't name names but my friend called who is a big oligarch over there and asked me if I'd like to be an ambassador for the Olympics and open the show. I immediately said no. I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don't feel the way the government does". I am pretty sure that if she will pay the same price of the other pop stars mentioned above for her refusal to play in Russia she won't even care - I'm Cher, b***h! Furthermore she said she relates with people on the fringe of society since Sonny and Cher experienced the same ignorance back in the days: "People hated Sonny and me in the early days because we looked and acted so different (...) people would call him "fag" and he'd get his nose broken-only because we were dressing differently. And these were our street clothes! You can't forget that."

After having talked about this issue so many times already and still coming up every time with something new, I wonder more and more what is the reason behind this phenomenon. Really, what's wrong with gays? What's so extremely disturbing? Why is it such a big deal that it affects governments' decisions and starts international debates?

People can wonder for the rest of their days about the why and the how of being gay, but actually there are no answers to these questions. Acceptance is just the consequence of stopping wondering about something and taking facts as they are. In this case, it is just love.
