Nick Lovell is one of the 3 winners of our Talenthouse competition.

Nick is a Los Angeles based photographer who entered this competition with a clear vision: "When I heard that DAA was having a contest with the goal of making safe sex sexy, I jumped at the opportunity. Several years ago, someone surprised me by saying "no one dies of AIDS anymore." At the time it seemed like a ridiculous statement to make. Since then, however, I've watched this attitude become more and more prevalent amongst sexually active individuals. It's true that treatments for HIV and AIDS have made tremendous advancements in the past couple decades, and that research to find a cure is looking more promising than ever. But people neglect to think about the quality of life they'd have to sacrifice, even with the best medications available, to fight the disease. At the same time, the virus is evolving and becoming resistant to treatment; an individual's chances of surviving the disease are now going down instead of up. The bottom line is that AIDS is still a vicious disease that destroys the lives of all those touched by it, and I wanted to be a part of DAA's efforts to fight back, using fashion advertising-style photos laced with humor. I applaud Designers Against AIDS for its efforts, and for bringing together artists who share my passion for educating people about the dangers of HIV and AIDS."
