Let me tell you a disturbing story. Some of you may have already heard of it, but I’ll still tell it. During a period from 1946 – 1948 the US government was secretly spreading multiple STDs. After WO2 at least 5500 people in Guatemala were experimented on. 1300 children, prisoners, mental patients were exposed to syphilis and 83 people actually died. Scientist working for the U.S. government did this as a part of a study to determine if taking penicillin after sex would protect against some of these STDs. During that time it was a medical priority, especially in the military. President Obama ordered a review on what went on during this research and the findings were disturbing. Some of the tested people were actually very vulnerable. They got infected in different ways: by using commercial sex workers who were infected with syphilis or gonorrhoea, with some patients they even injected the virus into people’s arms. People died because of this. I just can’t believe that the doctors and scientists had it in them to do something as horrific as this.
