Statistics from the new UNAIDS Global Report 2012 give us some good and some bad news about our fight against HIV/AIDS and they reconfirm that the fight still is far from over. Here's a summary of the facts: as you know there is still no cure for AIDS. In 2011 there were about 34 million people living with HIV/AIDS. According to the latest report, the "black sheep" are especially the Middle East and nothern Africa, where the number of HIV+ people is 35% higher than in 2001. In Indonesia there is an increase of more than 25% according to the report. Before you turn off your computer or ban our site now forever because of this shocking news, calm down and let me tell you the bright side of the report: on average the number of newly infected people is falling globally. In fact it is about 20% lower than in 2001. The prime regions of improvement were the Caribbean and what has been considered the epic center of HIV/AIDS, Sub-Saharan Africa. Whether or not you're a part of these statistics or know somebody who is, they serve to remind us that as long as people are getting infected, there is still work to be done.
