Croatian Catholic Church vs. Sex Education

Croatian schools started with a new sex education programme called “sex-ed” that will last until June 2014. The programme is unique in Croatia because the content is adjusted to the age of the students. Every school gives 3 hours of sex education every school year in an interactive way.

Since Croatia is a very Catholic country, “sex-ed” caused a lot of fury among the bishops of Croatia. They say “sex-ed” will promote "pornography, promiscuity and homosexuality".  The bishops blame the left-leaning government. Valentin Pozaic, who is one of the bishops, even compared the government to Nazis. Of course the government isn’t pleased with this at all and rejects every attempt to stop the programme.

I think it’s a shame that some people are still so short-sighted, especially when it comes to an important topic as safe sex. It’s really important to educate students from a young age and it’s time that even the most Catholic people start to realize that sex education is nothing but helpful and has no connection with pornography and promiscuity whatsoever.
