Following his sweeping victory last October, Tanzanian president John Magufuli has become an international hero due to the cost-cutting measures that he introduced across the country. Magufuli, who goes by the nickname “Bulldozer”, echoes the sentiments of Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe against miniskirts. At the end of last year, Mugabe was reported to have said that women are to blame for rape because of the clothes they wear. Now Kenya’s Standard Media is reporting that he’s surprising the public once again by banning miniskirts across the country, saying that he believes that these garments, along with short dresses, encourage the spread of the HIV virus.
Miniskirts and short dresses encourage the spread of the HIV virus? Are they serious? Having sex without using a condom causes the spread of the HIV virus, not the clothes women wear!
This is a great example of how so many people still not have the proper information about HIV/AIDS -including the president of Tanzania himself.
Please educate yourself about HIV/AIDS and you’ll know that miniskirts don’t have anything to do with the spread of HIV/AIDS. Remember, knowledge is power! Oh -and wear whatever you like and feel comfortable in.
