The Norwegian's NGO Plan has created a successful campaign to raise awareness about child marriage and sexual slavery, suffered by millions of girls all over the world. They have designed 'Thea's blog' where a girl of just 12 year old has announced her marriage with a 37 year old man. She tells what she expects from her marriage, such as learning household chores, prepare for motherhood and even about being sexy on their wedding night. The first reactions started immediately: people called the police and reported this scandal to child welfare organizations and thousands of people have debated about Thea on social media.

The campaign has demonstrated how fast we react when the problem (also) affects westerners: 'We want to show how horrible the practice of child marriage is and put it in a context that is familiar and normally associated with love, happiness and hope for the future. Many girls dream about their wedding day and this day is often referred to as one of the happiest days of their lives. But for the 39.000 young girls who get married every day, their wedding day is the worst day of their life. Norway and the rest of the world have to wake up and help us stop child marriages in order to prevent what these girls are going trough' says Olaf Thommessen, National Director of Plan Norway. Thea's blog has been Norway's most read blog during the course of one day and even became a website, where people can also read about other girls with arranged marriages, from countries like Bangladesh, India and Tanzania. Like them, every day thousands of children are being deprived of their childhood in arranged marriages.
