Andreja Pejic was born as Andrej Pejic in 1991 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but she didn't feel comfortable in a male body. She dreamed of being a woman and one of her earliest memories is spinning around wearing her mother's skirt, trying to look like a ballerina.
What really changed her life and encouraged her to think about the transition were similar people's stories written on the Internet. She felt that all those search results that Google gave her when looking for „sex change" totally described her feelings. Thanks to the support of her mother, grandmother and brother she then began taking puberty blockers to start the physical process to change from male to female.

Andrej's modeling career started when he was 17 years old and he wasn't only successful as a male model: Pejic walked both catwalks - the men's and women's shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier, Michael Michalsky and other famous fashion designers. Although she was proud of her nonconforming career, her biggest dream was to feel comfortable in her own body. She continued with her transition and early this year she finally had her sex reassignment surgery. The final step on her way towards becoming a woman was name change and now, as Andreja Pejic, she wants to share her courageous story with the world. She thinks that she has a social responsibility in this regard and she hopes that by sharing her story she can give a human face to this issue that many young -and not so young- people are dealing with.
