Forget Your Balls And Grow A Pair Of Tits

Have you guys heard the new Lily Allen song yet? I’ve been singing the song for the last week.  Can’t get around it without talking feminism of course. I don’t want to profile myself as a feminist, because apparently it’s a dangerous label to give yourself. Just to make it clear: I don’t hate men and I do shave my legs. However, I don’t agree on the fact that in certain sectors women and men do the same job but for a different pay grade.  Why? Because it’s unfair.  If a job is done equally good, it should be equally paid.

For all the other topics, I am a bit more careful. Will men and women ever be completely equal? I don’t believe so. Especially when it comes to genetics: yes, I believe most men are stronger than me. I don’t think that’s a bad thing and I don’t mind. For me, as a person, that just means that if I can’t carry a certain box, a friend will probably do it. Or I just call a girlfriend and we do it together.

Are women more emotional? Well, we have estrogen raging through our bodies. We deserve to be more emotional, don’t you think? That doesn’t mean I’m a train wreck that cannot hold it together for more than five minutes. So sure, I can agree on that.

Is a girl a slut if she has sex with a lot of guys? Is abortion a bad thing? Nope,  it’s just a personal choice.  And that’s how it should stay: personal. Everyone is entitled to their own decisions and frankly, I don’t care what you decide – as long as it’s not intentionally hurting someone. That, for me, is the true definition of feminism: whether you’re a guy or a girl, choose your own lifestyle and I’ll respect it. I might not always agree, but I won’t hold you (or your gender) responsible for that.

For the part where women are treated unequally by law: I think we’ve moved out of our kitchens by now and we deserve the respect that comes with it. Glass ceiling? Unequal pay grades? They should belong in the past.

Or with Lily Allen’s words: ‘ There’s a glass ceiling to break. Uhu, there’s money to make. And it’s time to speed it up ‘cause I can’t move at this pace’.
