HIV+ Gay Online Dating: Ghetto In The Ghetto Or Just Practical?

I have to thank again my search engine's automatic suggestions for having helped me to find a subject for today's entry. I was typing "HIV gay" and the first option suggested today was "HIV gay dating". Firstly, I am pretty surprised that my patterns in Internet searching have led to this result. I think it's because the work at DAA deeply changed these patterns. Moreover, finding so many websites that promote dating between people affected by STD's made me think. There is a list where you can choose the disease you are affected by - HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea, herpes and also "others" - and look for a virtual partner that you can match with. I used some gay online dating websites, especially when I was younger, but now I'm done with them because I realized they are a waste of time. In my opinion, if you really want to meet new gay people - like I did in the past - you should just try to meet them outside. I know it's very difficult, especially if the gay crowd in the clubs scares you and I can understand that. And I can also understand that, if you are affected by an STD, looking for a partner of any kind can be even more difficult. If I were ill, what would my reaction be in reading something like "The first, completely anonymous and most trusted online network dedicated to gay men and bisexual men with HIV, meeting new friends, partners or potential spouses in the world"? Like always on the Internet, cheats and swindles are just around the corner, there is also the risk that this websites are just another way to ask for your private information, or money. By the way, a lot of questions came to my mind but I am sure that if the stigma about these issues didn't exist - also in the gay community- we wouldn't have to discuss about ill people that look for other ‘similar' ones, since they are scared to not be accepted in the real world.
