I’m Gay, Straight, Bi, Transgender… A Person

In about a month, on May 17, it’s “The International Day Against Homophobia”.  This day was dedicated to the social recognition of homosexual experience by the “Fondation Emergence” in 2003. What we want is unlimited social acceptance of homosexuality. The Day wants to reach all groups of society, gay, straight, or whatever. Sexual orientation doesn’t really matter in this case, because sometimes even homosexual people tend to show homophobic behavior. People feel threatened when there actually isn’t anything to fear. We are all ‘a person’.

Over the years homosexuals have become more comfortable with their sexuality. More and more gays and lesbians come out, the media are more sympathetic, television includes more homosexual themes and even public personalities come out. This is a major breakthrough. That’s why “The International Day Against Homophobia” isn’t necessarily a negative or victimizing day. This Day may just as well be a day to show the progress and all the positive aspects of homosexuality. It is a celebration of the contribution of gays and lesbians to society.

By getting involved in this Day, you are working towards a prejudice-free world where everyone gets a chance. Visit the website and check out this years’ campaign online. The theme is “Same – sex parenting”
