Last Friday we visited Flemish sexual health organization Sensoa together with IHAEC crew member Peke.

They told us about HIV/AIDS and the actual situation in Belgium and also asked us how the statistics are in our own countries Italy, Spain and Ukraine. We learned that almost everywhere new HIV infections are still rising, particularly among young people, so our work at DAA and creating HIV prevention campaigns are still very much needed!

Do you want to know what the HIV infection rates are in our country? We did some research and came up with these numbers:

Italy:
Total amount of people infected with HIV in 2010: about 150.000  people

Total amount of people infected with HIV in 2005: up to 140.000  people
Spain:
Total amount of people infected with HIV in 2011: between 120.000 to 150.000 people
Total amount of people infected with HIV in 2005: about 110.000  people

Ukraine:
Total amount of people infected with HIV in 2009: about 350,000  people

Total amount of people infected with HIV in 2005: about 240,000  people

And please don't forget: the real amount of seropositive people is even higher than this, as many people don't get tested so they don't even know that they have been infected with HIV! Of course this also means that they continue to infect other people without even knowing it. Our advice: get tested and always keep safe!
