My Crazy First Week At DAA

That first day, oh boy, was I nervous. Even more so when I left my house to start my journey of two hours and saw snow, like, everywhere. ‘Typical' I thought. Of course, I grew even more agitated when the bus I so carefully selected the day before was delayed because of that snow.

By the time I arrived at Designers Against AIDS, I was simply stressed out. But when I entered the house, all that stress started to disappear. I was met by, say, warm vibes. When I applied for an internship at Designers Against AIDS, I had no idea that the ‘office' was a real house. This radiates some kind of a familiar feeling because the desk where I work at all day already feels like home.

When it's lunchtime, there is fresh soup, bread, fruit, coffee, etcetera. Everyone sits around the table and talks about stuff like work, songs, movies or even the cats... The cats. Better known as ‘the five adorable creatures who lay around the house all day '. There is one cat, though, that visits me daily: Spooky. I have three cats myself and I guess Spooky smells that. Every day she comes brushing against my hand, my shoes and my purse.

When I got my tasks, I grew even more excited. I got to invent a campaign for Valentine's day and I could promote socks, art and backpacks. At first I was a little afraid of social media, because when you make a mistake everyone probably sees it. Of course, I sometimes make mistakes but then I remind myself that I'm here to learn and that I have to learn from my mistakes. After a few days, I became more comfortable with that too and now I'm posting on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

I also got the chance to improve my Photoshop skills. In school, it was a subsidiary course but here at Designers Against AIDS I can really work on my skills. I can focus on the things I love to do. I remember that first day here, when I thought that working on a computer all day would be exhausting but now it has become a routine, one that I most definitely like.

When I wake up in the morning, I am ready for my internship. It is preparing me for when I graduate and for that I am really grateful. I hope some of you can come work here for a while too one day, so you can experience for yourself what I mean.

See you soon!
