As some of you might remember I recently wrote an entry about a Swedish book called Never Dry Tears Without Gloves written by Jonas Gardell.

This time I also have some good news for those of you who don’t speak Swedish – the TV-series that they based on the book is now going to be re-cut and become a film with subtitles in English. For those of you who don’t remember or read my previous entry, the book/series is about the gay movement and the outbreak of HIV in Stockholm in the beginning of the 80’s – but it’s at the same time a beautiful love story of two young men.

The TV-series has been compared to the HBO mini-series Angels in America (which you definitely should check out if you’re interested in the period of time when HIV was first discovered). The reason behind doing a film of the series is because of the big interest abroad. The actual TV-series may also be launched outside the borders of Sweden, for example BBC is a potential buyer.

Until then, a new book called In One Person written by American John Irving has been launched that covers the same subject. And this one is of course available in English too!

Above is the first part (of totally three) of the original TV-series. It’s in Swedish (off course), but the first few minutes are worth watching anyway since an image says more than a thousand words. - Tova
