Yesterday Clizia and I (Alexandra) went with Ninette to the opening of Walter Van Beirendonck's exhibition 'Dream The World Awake' in Antwerp's fashion museum MoMu.
Walter is a designer with an impressive career and his work is spectacular for his colourful and voluminous designs an also for the critical messages that he brings. Unpredictable applications, fabrics, techniques like the huge embroideries, drawings, the textures of the fabrics, unusual prints.... we were lucky to be able see his work close enough to notice all of the wonderful details. In the exhibition there's also a room with a video were Walter explains his work, his references, sketchbooks, reflections... really useful to understand him better. On the walls of the museum there are pictures, videos of his catwalk shows and references like Africa, aliens, videogames, dolls, masks, future, pop art and fetishism- and of course safe sex, one of his most important themes. The fashion people of Antwerp came out in full force to this opening, some of their outfits were surprising for us, as we are from Spain and Italy ;) We love the creative and free environment here in Antwerp!
