-       Is the handsome husband of your pretty neighbor beating her every day?

-       No way! He's always so kind to us...

Relationships may seem healthy on the surface but behind closed doors, no one can really know what is happening.  According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime; an estimated 1.3 million victims are affected by this annually and 85% of the time the victims are women. Domestic violence has been also the most chronically under-reported crime.

Can’t you see the domestic violation in the first picture? You're not alone. What we see from the outside is often just the tip of an iceberg. Not just for domestic violence but also for other hate crimes. We judge people by the way they dress, look or live. We just see how they look, but not the way they feel. Isn’t discriminating homosexuals a crime too? Maybe the words we say don’t harm them physically, but it breaks their hearts and hurts their feelings. Just because you can’t see the bruises you cause, doesn’t mean that you do something less bad.

It's needed to break the silence and to create an environment where people feel comfortable to represent who they are, how they feel and give them the confidence to report cases of abuse.
