Good Morning Everybody!
I hope everybody is fine today because after a long, nice and tiresome weekend, I am back to DAA HQ and I have many things to tell. Especially about the movie 'Trans X Istanbul'.
The world premiere of the documentary film 'Trans X Istanbul' by Maria Binder will take place at the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival this April. This is the beginning of a Turkey-wide campaign against hate crimes and impunity against transgender people, women and other minorities in Turkey. 'Trans X Istanbul' is a personal documentary film and part of the multi-platform project 'Trans X Turkey' about the human rights situation of transgender people in Turkey. With the help of local LGBTQI associations the presentation tour of the film will visit the cities Izmir, Gaziantep, Adana, Ankara, Mersin, Kars and Van.
Thousands of trans-women live in the big cities of Turkey and since 2009 there has been an increase in the murders of trans people. Ebru, who is a trans-woman from Istanbul, fights against the displacement and murder of her companions. She has experienced exclusion from state, society and family in her own life. For 25 years she has been active for human rights and the rights of LGBTIQ. She wants to change Turkish society with humor, self-irony and political acumen. She meets Margarethe, who is an 85-year-old German retired nurse and mother of the film‐maker and together they establish a retirement home for trans people. Moreover, the urban transformation of Istanbul and the protests around the Gezi Park are told in the film.
