A condom that can kill the HIV virus is set to hit the stores within the next few months. The product, that's been designed by a bio-tech firm in Australia, has now received a receipt of Conformity of Assessment Certification in Australia - which is paving the way for mass production. The condoms are lubricated with VivaGel, which contains 0.5 percent astodrimer sodium - a non-antibiotic, antimicrobial drug designed specifically as a compound against HIV. While condoms are currently considered the best protection against sexually transmitted infections, they are not 100 percent effective. Laboratory tests have shown that the VivaGel's condom is effective in deactivating 99.9 percent of HIV, herpes and human papilloma virus cases. This new condoms would be the first that not only protects against but also actively kills viruses.
