Where There Is Pop, There Is Gaga

I’m pretty sure if I ask who’s been the most influential name in pop music over the last five years, most of you will say Lady Gaga. And rightly so.

I remember when she first started and even back then, she was already showing some attitude, which is essential when you want to be famous, I think. After that, few club hits and a massive line of extravagant outfits, there she was. Well, her and her 5 Grammy Awards and 13 MTV Music Video Awards, shining behind her and proving that, no matter whether you love her or hate her, she is BIG.

You’d have never said she attended a private all girls catholic school. Born and raised in New York, she struggled to find work as a singer in the beginning but after meeting a number of influential names in the music industry and working hard to pursue her dream, something clicked and Gaga’s music was up on the radio and club scene every single day, her hits making up one of the highest-grossing concerts of all time with Monster Ball Tour.

She has been strongly involved with LGBT activism and has donated an incredible amount of money to charity, actively contributing to the fight against HIV/AIDS. She became a friend of DAA when she joined the Viva Glam by MAC campaign that we’ve partnered with, declaring “I don’t want Viva Glam to be just a lipstick you buy to help a cause. I want it to be a reminder when you go out at night to put a condom in your purse right next to your lipstick”. Wise words – The sales of her lipstick grossed more than $202 million. Additionally, she auctioned a Meet & Greet plus 2 VIP tickets to her Born This Way tour last year for DAA, which is a pretty big deal! We’ve also recently found out that her Born This Way Foundation has partnered with YMCA to host the Born Brave Youth Retreat at camp Hi-Rock in Washington for 50 young people aged 14-17 to improve their self-confidence and meet new friends, with all expenses covered! By the way, it’s the same camp Lady Gaga used to attend every year when she was a kid. Such a lovely idea!

From the latest news about her I must start with the release of her album Artpop earlier in November (this single “Do What U Want” is great!). That month she was also confirmed as the new face of Versace and simultaneously worked on the production of a documentary about her life (which is pretty unique); made her screen debut in a movie by Robert Rodriguez and will also appear on his future film Sin City: A Dame To Kill Over, due to be released in 2014. This coming January she’s going to be presenting a jazz album with Tony Bennett (click here for “The Lady is a Trump”, an awesome song they recorded together couple of years back and a very different style from what you're used to hear from her). Few days ago she modestly unveiled life-size dolls of herself to promote Artpop, which she’s just announced she’d be touring for in the USA in May next year. Gaga has also recently posed naked for Candy magazine, which celebrates transvestism and transsexuality, wearing nothing but a fur coat, a moustache and a scorpion on her nipple.

She has done it all. Well, maybe not all because she’s never been to space. Oh yes, she’s going to do that also, as she confirmed to Vanity Fair Daily, becoming the first recording artist to perform in the first ever concert in space as part of Zero G Colony festival in 2015. Mind-blowing.

This lady certainly has a lot to offer and everything she produces turns into gold these days and no wonder why! Look forward to hearing (and seeing) some more about her crazy adventures as she certainly is a master of the impossible.
