HIV/AIDS education loves the nightlife? Apparently in Bali it does: health workers in Indonesia have recently taken HIV/AIDS education in Bali to cafés and nightclubs. And according to travel and news site balidiscovery.com, a very unconventional campaign for HIV/AIDS prevention was launched by the Denpasar Health Department in collaboration with the government youth organization Karung Taruna.
The campaign --aimed at the employees of local cafés and other nightspots that also serve as points for prostitution-- was promoted via HIV/AIDS and safe sex education sessions with an edge: showing the participants photos of the illness' physical effects and impact.  The action has helped confirm the overall lack of information among the population and the common notion that HIV/AIDS awareness and education is still shockingly scarse in Bali - and in Indonesia in general. The campaign is also the latest of many efforts aimed at fighting the continuing rise of HIV infections in Bali. Data from the Health Department of Bali's capital Denpasar say that an estimated 1980 people in its metropolitan area have been infected by HIV.
