Belgium might be moving in the right direction. Remember a while back when I talked about HIV-testing on the streets? Well, in the future we might see HIV tests in the stores here!  In this case we’re talking about the swab tests that will tell you within 30 minutes if you are seropositive or not. The idea has been ignored before because it lacks the option of getting immediate counseling if the test comes back with bad news, which would be the normal procedure if you do the test with a doctor or other health professional. However, I am a big fan of the idea: it's a fast and easy process and it might lower the barrier for people to get tested.  Also, it normalizes the idea of getting tested for HIV. We do it for pregnancy, so why not for HIV?

All we need now is approval from the health council and we’re good to go. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
