Grace, a HIV positive woman, passed on the virus to her daughter Tadisa. Tadisa, is now 15 years old and still alive – surprisingly.  To the amazement of doctors there are thousands of teenagers like Tadisa who have actually survived over a decade with HIV. It is a surprise because survival beyond five years withhout any treatment is considered to be incredible according to an expert.

However, even if they have survived for this time, they suffer from chronic health complications such as disfigurement and are shunned by society. The biggest problem in Sub – Saharan Africa is that 4 out of 5 people who have the virus don't even know that they are infected. Thisis partly because of the stigma, since families fear that if their child is tested to have HIV, their family will be discriminated against.

I think that goes for everywhere: when you have HIV and people find out, they automatically become more cautious around you. However, that is not a reason not to get tested because you don't want to pass it on to others. And you want to find out early, so that there’s the possibility that medication can help. To avoid all of this, how about just having safe sex? Smartest idea ever!
