Actress Emma Watson, who was named a United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador in July, gave an impressive speech on feminism and gender equality at the UN headquarters in New York to launch the "HeForShe" campaign this Saturday. With her touching speech she amazed everyone more than witch Hermiona Granger ever could and she even got a thunderous standing ovation at the end.

The movie star and University graduate highlighted that feminism has become an unpopular word and fighting for women's rights has often became synonymous with man-hating. She is sure that the association between feminism and man-hating has to end or equality will remain a distant dream.

Watson took this speech also as on opportunity to extend a formal invitation for men and boys to get on board for gender equality. Because as she mentioned: "Gender equality is your issue too. "

The actress pointed out that even if we don't want to talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes, she can see that they are. "When they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence. If men don't have to be aggressive, women won't be compelled to be submissive. If men don't need to control, women won't have to be controlled."

In the end she invited everyone to take part in this struggle no matter if they called themselves "feminist" or prefered another word. "We are struggling for a uniting word, but the good news is that we have a uniting movement. It is called HeForShe. I am inviting you to step forward to be seen and to ask yourself, - If not me, who?
