My Lucky Number Isn’t 1

This morning the radio was playing ‘Number One' by Lene Lovich. This was her first song ever released, it was 1978 and it immediately became a hit. The music, Lovich's look, the video... everything was so progressive and you don't see these kind of artists anymore nowadays. Plus, the lyrics are so true, even though at first they look like words written by somebody living in rehab. "I never used to cry 'cause I was all alone / For me, myself and I is all I've ever known / I never felt the need to have a hand to hold / In everything I do I take complete control / That's where I'm coming from / My Lucky Number's one". There are moments when you feel so strong and you think you're going to be perfectly fine even being alone, then you meet somebody and all this overly confident attitude just falls down and you start thinking completely the opposite. "You certainly do have a strange effect on me / I never thought that I could feel the way I feel / There's something in your eyes gives me a wild idea / I never want to be apart from you my dear / I guess it must be true / My Lucky Number's two". All of a sudden you're in love and you don't want to be alone for one second.

I personally don't trust people whose ‘lucky number' is 1, who believe in individualism and that you don't need anybody else except from yourself. I think this is just bulls**t, humans are social animals, you simply need people around you and love is a part of your life. Even if you're not in a couple, your friends and relatives are fundamental, you can't just think everything's gonna be fine without them. Life is hard and people will disappoint you for sure and sometimes you'll think that being alone is better than being with idiots. Still, the game of life doesn't work this way: your lucky number is never gonna be 1: "This rearrangement suits me now I must confess / The number one was dull and number two is best / I wanna stay with you / My Lucky Number's two".
